Gut Microbiota clinical trials at UC Health
2 research studies open to new patients

  • Fiber Study

“The purpose of this study is to determine if dietary fiber increases overall gut health”

open to eligible people ages 18-45

The objective of this project is to conduct a randomized-order, double-blinded cross-over trial in 20 participants to test the effects of a dietary fiber formulation on gut microbiota composition and short chain fatty acid production, lipid profiles, glucose sensitivity, intestinal permeability, overall gut health, and markers of inflammation.

  • Resistant Starch Wheat for Improved Metabolic Health

“Does Resistant starch (RS), starch that escapes from digestion in the small intestine of healthy individuals, increase good bacteria in gut?”

open to eligible people ages 40-65

The objective of this study is to determine the effect of wheat enriched in resistant starch (RS) on the generation of fermentation products by the lower gut microbes, the fecal microbiota profile, intestinal metabolites, and the glycemic response to a test meal compared to regular wheat.
